AKG P220 High-Performance Large Diaphragm True Condenser Microphone

The AKG P220 Large Diaphragm True Condenser Microphone is ready to deliver crisp, distortion-free sound on a budget, whether you record voices at home or mike up blasting guitar cabs and explosive drumming on stage. It boasts even greater SPL handling and reduced self-noise than the P120. This side-address mic has a tough all-metal construction that not only increases durability but also helps to resist RF interference from sources like wireless systems. It includes a metal carrying box for protection during transit as well as a spider-type shock mount to isolate the microphone from vibration noise.

True-Condenser Capsule

The P220’s genuine condenser capsule has a 1″ gold-sputtered diaphragm calibrated to provide a detailed sound with minor high- and low-frequency peaks. Additionally, it can handle SPLs of up to 155 dB (with the -20 pad on) without noticeable distortion, so it will have no trouble competing with guitar amps and drums. To reduce rumbling, wind noise, and even bass building from close-up miking, a low-cut filter set at 300 Hz can be activated. Because the cardioid polar pattern of the microphone is most sensitive to sound coming from in front of it, it reduces stage bleed and background noise. To connect the P220 to an XLR mic input that can deliver 48V phantom power, use an XLR cable that is separately available.

Cardioid Polar Pattern

The side-address microphone is most sensitive to sounds coming at it from the front, whereas noises coming at it from the sides or back (from the monitor speakers or adjacent instruments) are picked up considerably less. This means that the microphone may be used both onstage and for recording.

Gold-Sputtered Large Diaphragm

The AKG P220 features a true condenser capsule design. Its 1″ large diaphragm is made of a plastic foil that is gold-sputtered on one side only to prevent shorting to the back electrode, even at extremely high sound pressure levels.

High Headroom and Minimum Distortion

The AKG P220 Large Diaphragm True Condenser Microphone performs well in a variety of applications and can handle sound pressure levels of up to 155 dB without introducing detectable distortion. It is also designed to withstand extreme temperatures and humidity.

Bass-Cut Filter

Selector 1 on the microphone front further reduces low-end distortion caused by footfall, wind noise, and air conditioning rumble. The filter also minimizes the proximity effect that close-in miking from less than 4″ causes in any unidirectional microphone. The filter rolls off at 12 dB/octave from 300 Hz downward.
